Palestine - Palestine
Biddu is a Palestinian village, located north-west of Jerusalem. It is 15 km from Jerusalem’s Old City and 13 km from Ramallah. The population of Biddu is over 6,500 people. 50% of the population are under 25 years.
In October 2006, a youth centre called Nawafeth, which in Arabic means ‘openings,’ opened in Biddu. The Centre’s main goal is opening windows in the Israeli wall.
Nawafeth runs English, music, photography, and painting courses, and afternoon lectures for students preparing for secondary school final exams. It also runs a project on human rights.
Thanks to the Italian Consortium of Solidarity (www.icsitalia.org) and ZaLab’s initiative, a permanent video workshop is now active at Nawafeth. Its primary aim is to make films promoting peace, by communicating the difficult situation in Palestine and helping social change in the village.
The first film ever made by Nawafeth – Under the Same Roof – won a prize at the PieveCorto Concorso festival (Italy, 2006) and was entered in the SoleLuna festival (Italy, 2006).
