ZaLab TV Hubs
Barcelona-1 - Poble Sec
In February 2007, ZaLab TV opened a new video workshop in Poble Sec, a district in Barcelona (Spain). The video training activities are aimed at students from the local ‘Shared Education Unit’ (UEC). UECs are learning areas for teenagers aged between 14 and 16 years, who, for different reasons (e.g. threatening or persistent disruptive behaviour, or prolonged absenteeism), and according to the Spanish education system, have lost their right to attend mainstream public schools and colleges.
The ZaLab TV workshop at the UEC of Poble Sec, a district with a large proportion of immigrants, aims to empower the young participants through video making, which is a creative way to self-express and give voice to personal experiences and stories.
ZaLab TV also means to provide a chance for the UEC students to get involved in the activities of ZaLab TV’s local partner, Resources of Cultural Animation (RAI), as well as exchange videos and experiences with the other hubs in the participatory video network. The first step, in February/March 2007, the UEC students will test their skills in video making by producing a short film called Poble Sec Portraits.
