documentary, Italy 2012, 60′, by Stefano Liberti and Andrea Segre
As a result of an agreement signed by Berlusconi and Gaddafi in 2009, all migrants intercepted at sea by the Italian navy were forcibly returned to Libya, where they have been exposed to any kind of abuses by local police. Many of them, about 2000 people, were asylum seekers. How has this “push-back policy” been implemented? what actually happened on the boats and after deportation to Libya? One of our witnesses sued Italy in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The Court has recently condemned Italy for violation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
